How far is Port Canaveral from Orlando Airport in miles?

Port Canaveral is 42 to 45 miles from Orlando International Airport by road, and the trip home is the same distance. The figure shifts a little depending on who measures it and which cruise terminal is the end point.

What each source says about the distance
SourceWhat it says
Orlando International Airport"The 42 mile route" between MCO and Port Canaveral
Visit Space Coast45 miles (72 km) from MCO
Go Port45.3 miles
Port CanaveralMCO is "approximately 45 minutes west"
Disney Cruise LineOne hour from the airport to the terminal
MSC Cruises"About an hour away"

The cruise terminals sit off two different exits, so a drop-off at Cruise Terminal 1 and one at Cruise Terminal 10 are not the same trip to the mile. For planning, 42 to 45 miles is the honest range. Starting from a hotel or vacation home instead? We also run car service from Orlando hotels and Kissimmee villas to Port Canaveral.

How long is the drive from MCO to Port Canaveral?

Plan on 45 to 60 minutes of driving. The Port quotes about 45 minutes, while Disney Cruise Line and MSC plan for about an hour, which is the safer number on a sailing day.

The route is simple: from the airport you join SR 528 and stay on it east almost the whole way. The Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) runs the 23 miles from Boggy Creek Road to SR 520, and Florida's Turnpike Enterprise the 15 miles beyond.

Airport times are from the MCO FAQ. A flight that lands at 11:00 AM puts most travelers at the terminal curb around 12:30 to 1:00 PM on a normal day.

Sailing-day traffic: when is the drive slower?

The miles never change, but the traffic does. On a sailing day the busy windows are about 7:30 to 9:30 AM, when guests leave the ships for MCO, and about 10 AM to 1 PM, when new passengers head to the terminals.

Which days are busiest at the port?

Days when several ships end one cruise and start the next are the busiest. We counted the turnaround calls (port-of-call visits left out) in the Port Canaveral master cruise schedule from October 3, 2026 to February 28, 2027:

Ships turning around at Port Canaveral by day of the week

Friday to Monday is when the terminal curbs fill up, and every six-ship day in this schedule is a Friday: November 20, December 4 and December 18, 2026, then February 12 and February 26, 2027.

MCO to Port Canaveral tolls: what do you pay on SR 528?

A two-axle car, SUV or van pays $1.72 each way with an E-PASS or compatible transponder, or $3.44 by Pay By Plate, at CFX's July 1, 2026 rates.

SR 528 tolls eastbound from MCO
SR 528 toll point, eastboundE-PASS or transponderPay By Plate
Beachline Main Plaza$1.08$2.16
Dallas Main Plaza$0.64$1.28
Total each way$1.72$3.44
  • No cash. CFX has moved to cashless tolling. Without a transponder, a Pay By Plate invoice is mailed to the vehicle's registered owner.
  • Rental cars. The registered owner is the rental company, so read its toll policy at the counter.
  • Rates change. CFX adjusts tolls every year, and its toll facilities manual lists no further mainline plaza after Dallas on the way to the port.

With JOB, tolls are already in the flat price, so there is nothing to pay or track.

Which exit and terminal? The last few miles

Near the coast, SR 528 splits. Port Canaveral's directions send you to Exit 54A for Cruise Terminals 5, 6, 8 and 10, and Exit 54B for Cruise Terminals 1 and 3. Passengers are dropped off in front of each terminal, and porters help with bags. These are the assignments in the Port's September 2026 to February 2027 schedule:

These distances matter after the cruise. Most ships dock by 7:00 AM, hours before the earliest flights the cruise lines recommend. What does the 45-mile ride cost per person?

A private vehicle costs one flat price however many seats you fill, so a full vehicle splits it the most ways. Shared shuttles and cruise-line buses charge every traveler.

What JOB does on the drive to Port Canaveral

JOB Transportation of Florida is a family-run Orlando company, and riders know Pedro and his family by name. On the run from MCO, that means:

  • Meet and greet at MCO: your driver meets you inside the terminal with a name sign.
  • One flat price per vehicle, tolls included: the fare is set when you book, so a busy sailing morning doesn't change it. Gratuity is optional.
  • Room for groups: 12- and 14-passenger Ford Transit vans for groups that would otherwise need three cars, plus minivans and SUVs for six or fewer. See our private group shuttle.
  • Car seats and boosters on request: see car service with car seats.
  • A grocery stop on the way for water, snacks or sunscreen, on request.
  • Spanish spoken: ask for a Spanish-speaking driver. Hablamos español.
  • $1,000,000 liability insurance: the same figure as the $1 million minimum Port Canaveral sets for permitted ground transportation operators.
  • The same flat price home, from the port back to MCO.

We have just returned and used Pedro and his family, excellent service and so nice. Will definitely use him again and continue to recommend.

Sailing-day timing checklist

Before the cruise: MCO to the port

  • Book a flight that lands by late morning. The cruise lines' own buses ask Disney Cruise Line guests to land by 11:30 AM and Carnival guests by 12:00 PM.
  • Budget about 40 minutes at MCO if you checked bags, then 45 to 60 minutes on the road.
  • Know your cruise terminal number and its exit, 54A or 54B.
  • Pre-book your ride. Port Canaveral requires commercial fares to be pre-arranged and pre-paid.
  • Flying in the day before takes flight delays out of the equation.

After the cruise: the port back to MCO

  • Ships usually arrive between 6:00 and 7:00 AM.
  • Disney Cruise Line lists 11:15 AM as the earliest MCO departure on debarkation day, Carnival's transfers need return flights at 12:50 PM or later, and MSC suggests at least five hours between the ship's arrival and your flight.
  • Orlando's airport authority recommends reaching security two hours before departure.
  • For more detail, see the earliest flight after a Port Canaveral cruise and our Port Canaveral to Orlando Airport service.

Frequently asked questions

Planning your cruise transfer?

Call, text or WhatsApp us with your flight, ship and group size. We reply with a flat price.

How far is Port Canaveral from Orlando airport?

Port Canaveral is about 42 to 45 miles (68 to 72 km) by road from Orlando International Airport (MCO). MCO describes the route as 42 miles and Visit Space Coast lists 45 miles. The exact figure depends on your cruise terminal.

How long is the drive from MCO to Port Canaveral?

Plan on 45 to 60 minutes on SR 528 east. The Port says about 45 minutes, and Disney Cruise Line plans for one hour. Allow extra time between 10 AM and 1 PM on sailing days, when the cruise lines run their airport transfers, above all Friday to Monday.

How much are the tolls from MCO to Port Canaveral?

For a two-axle car or van, the two CFX toll points on SR 528 total $1.72 with an E-PASS or compatible transponder, or $3.44 by Pay By Plate, each way (rates as of July 1, 2026). JOB's flat prices already include tolls.

Can I pay cash for tolls on the Beachline Expressway?

No. CFX has moved to cashless tolling, so you pay with a transponder or get a Pay By Plate invoice mailed to the vehicle's registered owner. In a rental car, that owner is the rental company.

What time should my flight land for a Port Canaveral cruise?

The cruise lines' own transfers ask Disney Cruise Line guests to land at MCO by 11:30 AM and Carnival guests by 12:00 PM. A private ride gives you more room, but landing by late morning leaves time for bag claim and the 45 to 60 minute drive.

How far is Orlando airport from Port Canaveral on the way home?

It is the same 42 to 45 miles on SR 528 west, but the morning is busier: ships arrive around 6:00 to 7:00 AM and rideshare fares often surge 1.5 to 2 times between 7:30 and 9:30 AM. Disney Cruise Line lists 11:15 AM as the earliest MCO departure, and Carnival's transfers need flights at 12:50 PM or later.

Is there a train from Orlando airport to Port Canaveral?

No. Brightline trains from MCO run south to West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, Aventura and Miami, not to Port Canaveral. For the 42 to 45 miles to the port you need a shuttle, rideshare, rental car or private transfer.

How much is a private van from MCO to Port Canaveral?

JOB charges one flat price per vehicle, from $159 for a minivan (up to 6) to $249 for a 14-passenger Ford Transit. A full 14-passenger van works out to $17.79 per person, tolls included.
