Uber from MCO to Port Canaveral vs a Private Van: Costs, Waits and Group Math

On this page

Short answer

An Uber from MCO to Port Canaveral costs about $62 to $78 (UberX) or $95 to $120 (UberXL) one way before surge, for a 42 to 45 mile, 45 to 60 minute drive. Debarkation mornings often surge 1.5 to 2 times. UberXL seats 6; a private JOB minivan or SUV starts at $159 per vehicle, and a 14-passenger van is $249.

Quick answer: Uber or a private van?

Uber usually costs less when

  • You are 1 to 4 people with one suitcase each, going to the port on a normal morning.
  • Your timing is flexible and you can live with surge pricing.

A private SUV or van usually makes more sense when

  • You are 6 or more with a full week of cruise luggage, so one UberXL is too tight and you need 2 or 3 cars.
  • You are leaving the ship, when rideshare fares often surge 1.5 to 2 times between 7:30 and 9:30 AM.
  • You need car seats, a grocery stop, a Spanish-speaking driver, or someone to hold your bags until a late flight.

How much is an Uber from MCO to Port Canaveral?

Expect $62 to $78 for UberX and $95 to $120 for UberXL one way, before surge and tip (RideWise). Uber's own route page shows a $75 average fare to Cape Canaveral, for about 47 minutes and 47 miles. Go Port, which sells a competing shuttle, reports $100 to $150 or more in cruise season.

The airport puts the drive at 42 miles and Visit Space Coast at 45. The Port says about 45 minutes via SR 528, a toll road, and Disney Cruise Line plans on one hour. More in how far is Port Canaveral from Orlando Airport?

Lyft from MCO to Port Canaveral

Lyft lands within a few dollars of Uber on this route, with the same surge pattern.

Uber with a car seat

Uber's car-seat option costs more. In EverythingMouse's May 2025 check, UberX Car Seat was $90 against $76 for UberX, and UberXL Car Seat $130 against $110 for UberXL. We bring car seats and boosters on request; tell us each child's age when you book. Our standard follows NHTSA guidance: children ride in the back seat through age 12 and use a booster until the seat belt fits. More on our car service with car seats.

UberXL vs a 12- or 14-passenger van: who actually fits?

An UberXL seats up to 6, so a group of 7 to 12 needs two XLs and a group of 13 or 14 needs three. One Ford Transit van seats 12 or 14, so the whole group rides together.

Cruise luggage is where XL plans fall apart. An XL is a minivan or three-row SUV, and with all 6 seats taken there is little room behind the last row for a week of luggage. You also won't know which XL model is coming until a driver accepts.

Splitting into two or three cars brings its own trouble: separate pickups, separate arrival times and a separate surge price for each car. Go Port also points out that Uber doesn't guarantee a pickup time, even on a reserved ride, and drivers can cancel.

Cost per person: Uber vs a private van for 4, 6, 8, 12 and 14 travelers

Going to the port on a calm morning, Uber is cheaper for 4 to 6 people and about even for 8 to 12, as long as the luggage fits. On the surge-priced trip home, one flat-rate van costs less from 8 travelers up, and at 14 it costs less in both directions.

Uber figures use RideWise's $95 to $120 UberXL estimate and its 1.5 to 2 times debarkation surge, before tips. JOB's price is the same in both directions.

  • 4 travelers, light bags, going to the ship: one UberX at $62 to $78 ($16 to $20 each), or one UberXL, is cheaper, and we would rather tell you so.
  • 6 travelers: one UberXL is cheaper on paper, but six full-size suitcases often won't fit. Compare our SUV or 12-passenger van.
  • 8 to 12 travelers: coming home, one van costs less than two surged XLs and keeps the group together.
  • 10 to 12 travelers with big suitcases: tell us how many large bags you have, and we confirm whether the 12-passenger van works or the 14-passenger van fits better.

Where do you meet your Uber at Orlando International Airport?

Rideshare pickup at Orlando International Airport (MCO) is on the Arrivals Curb: Level 2 for Terminals A and B, and Level 6 for Terminal C. To book ahead, Uber Reserve takes requests 2 hours to 90 days in advance where it is offered, but it may not be available at every pickup location, and Uber says ETAs are not guaranteed.

With JOB, your driver meets you inside the terminal with a name sign. Late flight? We adjust your pickup to your flight's new time (send us your flight number). Our MCO ground transportation guide covers every terminal.

Uber after a cruise: Port Canaveral to Orlando Airport

Uber and Lyft operate at Port Canaveral, but debarkation morning is the most expensive and least predictable time to ride. Outside the morning rush, expect fares close to the trip out. Between 7:30 and 9:30 AM on debarkation day, at a 1.5 to 2 times surge, plan on roughly $93 to $156 for UberX and $143 to $240 for UberXL, before tip.

Why do Uber prices jump on debarkation morning?

Most ships arrive between 6:00 and 7:00 AM, and Port Canaveral is the world's busiest cruise port, with more than 8.6 million revenue passenger movements in fiscal 2025. Most guests want a car in the same two-hour window, and RideWise calls a 1.5 to 2 times surge between 7:30 and 9:30 AM the norm rather than the exception.

Flight times add pressure: Disney Cruise Line sets the earliest MCO departure on debarkation day at 11:15 AM, and Carnival says no earlier than 12:50 PM. See our guides to the earliest flight after a Port Canaveral cruise and to Royal Caribbean and Carnival transfers.

Where is the Uber pickup location at Port Canaveral?

You are picked up in front of your cruise terminal, with your luggage. Rideshare drivers wait in a designated TNC holding area and drive over once you request.

Pickup addresses at the Port Canaveral cruise terminals
TerminalPickup address, Cape Canaveral, FL 32920
Cruise Terminal 19050 or 9500 Discovery Rd. (the Port lists both)
Cruise Terminal 3220 Christopher Columbus Dr.
Cruise Terminal 59245 Charles Rowland Dr.
Cruise Terminal 69241 Charles Rowland Dr.
Cruise Terminal 89155 Charles Rowland Dr.
Cruise Terminal 109005 Charles Rowland Dr.

Addresses are from the Port's directions page; which ships use which terminal is in our exits and terminals list. Request your ride once you are outside with your bags. Drivers take the first open space in the holding area and must leave when it is full, so on a busy morning allow extra time for your car to arrive.

Do Uber drivers need a permit at Port Canaveral?

Yes. Under the Port's ground transportation rules, effective October 1, 2025, rideshare drivers hold a TNC permit and may enter the TNC holding area only while their app is on. Shuttles, vans and car services need a Port permit decal and transponder, at least $1 million in liability insurance, and fares that are pre-arranged and pre-paid. What this means for you:

  • You can't hire a waiting van on the spot. Solicitation is banned, so private drivers carry only passengers who booked ahead.
  • The walk-up option is the Port's official ground transportation concessionaire, Cocoa Beach Express, which offers on-demand service.
  • Book the ride home before you sail. Your driver waits for you.

This is general information, not legal advice. The Port's rules can change, so check its ground transportation page for the current version.

Late flight? Use the hours instead of waiting at the airport

Kennedy Space Center does not allow luggage, so an evening flight can mean hours of waiting with your bags. With our debarkation-day baggage hold, we keep your bags while you visit Kennedy Space Center, Cocoa Beach or Jetty Park, then drive you to MCO, from $249 in an SUV.
