On this page

Short answer

Royal Caribbean and Carnival both sell transfers from Orlando International Airport (MCO) to Port Canaveral, 42 to 45 miles away. Does Royal Caribbean have transportation from MCO to Port Canaveral?

Yes. Royal Caribbean sells transfers from the airport to the pier on sail day and from the pier to the airport on debarkation day, and on no other days.

  • How to buy: through your travel advisor or Royal Caribbean Reservations, ideally two weeks before you sail.
  • Cruise-only guests: booked your own flights? You can still buy it as Royal Connections. Otherwise, getting to the airport is up to you.
  • Flight details: required. A representative greets guests on the transfer list at the airport.
  • Price: an additional per-guest fee that isn't listed on Royal Caribbean's public FAQ pages, so ask when you book.

It suits 1 to 4 travelers landing on sail morning. Families of 5 or more, groups, and anyone staying at an Orlando hotel first usually do better with a private vehicle.

Does Carnival have a shuttle from MCO to Port Canaveral?

Yes. Carnival transfers from Orlando to Port Canaveral cost $37.99 per person each way and run on embarkation and debarkation days only. Sunward Tours operates it for Carnival.

  • Land by 12:00 PM. Service runs from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM on sail day.
  • Meet at Terminal B, Level 1. The meeting point is Ground Transportation, inside against the wall next to the Hertz counter. If you land at Terminal C, add time: the Terminal Link runs from Terminal B to the Train Station, then about 1,200 feet through Garage C to Terminal C.
  • Give your flight details early, in Online Check-In at least two days before sailing. Staff are released once all known flights are met, so a missing or wrong flight can leave you without a ride.
  • Flying in the day before? You can still ride Carnival's bus, but you must make your own way back to the Terminal B meeting point by 12:00 PM on sail day.
  • Return flights at 12:50 PM or later. The port-to-MCO ride starts at $37.99 per person and takes about an hour. Carnival suggests express debarkation if your flight is early.
  • How to buy: My Cruise Manager (Airport Transfers) or Carnival's reservations line, up to two days before sailing. Children under 2 ride free on a lap.

Cruise-line bus vs private van: what does your group pay?

You pay the cruise line per person but pay JOB per vehicle, so the private vehicle pulls ahead at 5 travelers. As Orlando International Airport puts it, taxis charge per trip, while shuttles charge per person. MCO to Port Canaveral for Carnival or Royal Caribbean guests, one way:

Fares: Carnival, Go Port, and a third-party UberXL estimate before surge. Royal Caribbean does not publish its fare, but it is also charged per guest, so it grows the same way.

  • 1 to 4 travelers: the cruise-line bus or a shared shuttle is usually cheapest, and we will tell you so. For 4, Carnival's seats total $151.96. On a tight budget, compare the free and near-free ways to reach Port Canaveral.
  • 5 travelers: a minivan at $31.80 each already costs less than 5 Carnival seats ($189.95).
  • 14 travelers: one Transit van is $249, against $531.86 in Carnival seats. Round trip, that is $498 against $1063.72 on Carnival's bus.

UberXL can look cheaper for up to 6 travelers, but those figures are pre-surge estimates, not a fixed fare. Weighing rideshare? Read Uber from MCO to Port Canaveral vs a private van.

Embarkation day: when should your flight land?

For Carnival's bus, land by 12:00 PM. A private vehicle has no cut-off of its own, but ships sail at 3:30 to 4:30 PM and boarding closes earlier, so aim for a late-morning landing either way.

  • Allow time at MCO: about 20 minutes from gate to curb, or 40 minutes with checked bags.
  • The drive: 42 to 45 miles on SR 528 east, about 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic. See how far Port Canaveral is from Orlando Airport.
  • Shared shuttles run on a timetable: Go Port leaves MCO between 10:00 AM and 12:30 PM.
  • Flying in the day before? Neither cruise line picks up at hotels. We collect you at your Orlando hotel or vacation home, from $169: see Orlando hotels and villas to Port Canaveral.

Debarkation day: getting from Port Canaveral back to MCO

Ships dock between 6:00 and 7:00 AM. Royal Caribbean sets your debark time by color luggage tag and asks you to reach your assigned lounge 15 minutes early. Carnival's bus only takes guests whose flights leave at 12:50 PM or later.

  • Same flat price both ways. We drive you from your terminal to MCO on your schedule rather than a bus timetable.
  • No surge. Rideshare estimates rise 1.5 to 2 times between 7:30 and 9:30 AM on debarkation mornings.
  • Book ahead. The Port requires commercial fares to be pre-arranged and pre-paid.
  • Late flight? Kennedy Space Center does not allow luggage. With our baggage hold, we keep your bags while you visit KSC or Cocoa Beach, from $249 in an SUV. Read Kennedy Space Center after your cruise, with your luggage.

Staying at Disney World or Universal before your cruise?

Royal Caribbean and Carnival transfers run only between the airport and the pier. We drive from any Walt Disney World resort straight to your terminal: a minivan for $179, a 14-passenger van for $269. From a Universal or International Drive hotel, a minivan is $169. Send us your ship and sail date and we plan the pickup around your terminal and its boarding window. Details: Disney World to Port Canaveral in one private vehicle.
