Cruise and Port Canaveral
Kennedy Space Center Luggage Storage After a Cruise: Bag Rules, Timing and Getting to MCO
On this page
Short answer
There is no Kennedy Space Center luggage storage. The Visitor Complex bans "luggage and other large bags," so cruisers need a bag plan before leaving Port Canaveral. KSC is about 15 miles (30 minutes) from the port and 45 to 60 minutes from Orlando International Airport (MCO). We hold your bags while you tour, then drive you to MCO, from $249 per vehicle.
Is there Kennedy Space Center luggage storage?
No. The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex lists "large coolers, luggage and other large bags" among its prohibited items. Its official FAQ and guest services pages list no bag check and no suitcase lockers.
If security finds a suitcase, you must take it back to your vehicle or surrender it, and surrendered items are not returned.
What is the Kennedy Space Center bag policy?
Day bags are fine; suitcases are not.
| Item | Allowed at KSC? |
|---|---|
| Suitcases, luggage and other large bags | No |
| Large coolers | No |
| Backpacks and day bags | Yes, but they may be opened and inspected |
| Small soft-sided coolers (lunchbox size) with your own food | Yes |
| Glass containers and outside alcohol | No |
| Knives or anything with a blade, pepper spray, firearms | No |
| Drones | No |
Every visitor also passes a metal-detecting magnetometer. Pack only essentials in your day bag: IDs, boarding passes, medication, chargers and sunscreen.
Are there Kennedy Space Center lockers?
Not for suitcases. The Information building at the main entrance rents wheelchairs, scooters and strollers, but guest services lists no luggage lockers. With other questions, call the Visitor Complex before you go.
5 ways to handle your luggage on disembarkation day
Dropping your bags at the airport first doesn't work well. MCO is 42 to 45 miles in the wrong direction, its storage desk (Hold My Luggage) is at Terminal B, Level 1, and some airlines accept checked bags only a few hours before departure. These five options do work:
| Option | Price | Who holds your bags | Schedule | Gets you to MCO? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Rental car near the port | Daily rental, fuel, tolls, $15 KSC parking | Your trunk | Yours | Yes, if someone drives and returns it at MCO |
| 2. Storage app (Bounce, Qeepl) | From $6.95 a day (Bounce) or $7.39 per bag per day (Qeepl), plus every ride | A partner shop | Shop hours | No, you book separate rides |
| 3. Carnival's KSC and MCO excursion | $119.99 per adult, $114.99 per child, KSC admission included | Stowed on the motorcoach | Fixed 6-hour tour, flights after 5:00 PM only | Yes, shared motorcoach |
| 4. Fixed-schedule private transfer | $73.99 to $233.99 per person by group size, admission not included | In the vehicle | Fixed 3:00 PM MCO drop-off | Yes |
| 5. JOB baggage-hold transfer | From $249 per vehicle, admission not included | JOB, from the terminal curb to the MCO curb | Yours, with extra hours available | Yes, to your airline's departures curb |
1. Rent a car near the port
National, Avis and Enterprise are a free five-minute shuttle ride from the terminals, and your bags ride in the trunk. You need a willing driver, room for everyone's luggage (a group of 10 may need two cars) and time to return the car at MCO. Port Canaveral is the world's busiest cruise port, so expect a wait at the counter when several ships are in.
2. Use a luggage storage app
The Bounce partner in Cape Canaveral is 8 minutes from Port Canaveral and includes $10,000 protection. It closes at 3:00 PM on Saturdays and Sundays, and you still need four rides: port to shop, shop to KSC, back to the shop, then on to MCO.
3. Book your cruise line's KSC-to-airport excursion
If you sailed with Carnival, its 6-hour excursion includes a 30-minute bus ride to KSC, general admission, luggage stowed on the bus, and a 45-minute ride to MCO. It only takes guests with flights after 5:00 PM. Check your own cruise line's shore excursion list for something similar.
4. Book a fixed-schedule private transfer
Shore Excursions Group sells a private pier-to-KSC-to-MCO transfer with luggage accommodated, priced per person, with a fixed 3:00 PM airport drop-off. KSC tickets are extra. Some local shuttle companies also run KSC trips but add an extra fee to hold luggage.
5. Let a private driver hold your bags
We meet you at the terminal, drop you at KSC, pick you up when you're done and drive you to MCO for one flat price per vehicle. See how our baggage hold works.
What does each option cost per person?
Excursions charge every traveler the same price, while a private vehicle splits one price across the group:
| Your group | JOB vehicle and price | JOB per person | Shore Excursions Group per person | Carnival excursion per person, admission included |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 adults | SUV, $249 | $124.50 | $116.99 | $119.99 |
| Family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids ages 3 to 11) | SUV, $249 | $62.25 | $77.99 | $117.49 average |
| 6 adults | SUV, $249 | $41.50 | $77.99 | $119.99 |
| 10 adults | 12-passenger van, $349 | $34.90 | $77.99 | $119.99 |
| 14 adults | 14-passenger van, $379 | $27.07 | $73.99 | $119.99 |
To compare fairly, add KSC admission ($77 per adult, $67 per child ages 3 to 11) to the JOB and Shore Excursions Group figures. A longer day adds $45 an hour for an SUV or $50 for a 14-passenger van; each hold price covers up to several hours.
Bottom line: once tickets are added, Carnival's excursion is the cheaper choice for a couple or a family of four with a flight after 5:00 PM. One JOB vehicle plus tickets costs less per person at 6 adults and from 9 up, and it suits other cruise lines, kids who need car seats and a schedule of your own.
Sample disembarkation-day timeline
This example assumes a 5:30 PM flight and KSC hours of 9 AM to 5 PM.
| Time | What happens |
|---|---|
| 6:00 to 7:00 AM | Most ships dock at Port Canaveral (2026 schedule) |
| 7:00 to 8:00 AM | Walk off carrying your own bags; staterooms are usually cleared by 8:00 AM |
| About 8:00 AM | Meet your JOB driver at the terminal and load the luggage |
| About 8:45 AM | Arrive at the KSC Visitor Complex; parking opens 30 minutes before the gates |
| 9:00 AM | Gates open. Start with the bus tour (budget about 3 hours) |
| About 12:00 PM | Lunch, then Space Shuttle Atlantis and the Rocket Garden |
| About 2:30 PM | We pick you up at KSC |
| About 3:30 PM | Arrive at your airline's departures curb at MCO: Level 3 for Terminals A and B, Level 2 for Terminal C |
| 5:30 PM | Your flight leaves. You reached security 2 hours early, as the airport recommends |
- Carry your own bags off to leave early. MSC's self-assist disembarkation generally starts around 7:00 AM, Royal Caribbean assigns debark times by luggage tag, and Disney Cruise Line ships usually return by 7:30 AM and offer Express Walk-off.
- Check KSC hours for your date: 9 AM to 5 PM on most dates through December 19, 2026, and 9 AM to 7 PM over the holidays. Entry ends 1 hour before closing; the last bus tour runs 2.5 hours before closing.
Port Canaveral to Kennedy Space Center to Orlando Airport: drive times
| Leg | Distance | Usual drive |
|---|---|---|
| Port Canaveral to the KSC Visitor Complex | About 15 miles | About 30 minutes |
| KSC Visitor Complex to MCO | KSC is about 50 miles from Orlando via SR 528 | 45 to 60 minutes (Carnival says 45, Shore Excursions Group 60) |
| Port Canaveral to MCO, no stops | 42 to 45 miles | About 45 to 60 minutes |
Traffic, weather and launches change drive times, so we build in a cushion. More on the direct route: how far Port Canaveral is from Orlando Airport.
Which flight times work with a Kennedy Space Center stop?
Flights between 3:00 and 5:00 PM allow a shorter visit of about 2 to 3 hours, and flights at 5:00 PM or later allow a full Kennedy Space Center day. Earlier flights don't leave time for KSC. Leave KSC about 3 hours before departure: up to 60 minutes of driving plus 2 hours at the airport. We fine-tune your day when you book.
| Flight leaves MCO | Leave KSC by about | Time inside KSC (gates open 9:00 AM) | Best plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| Before 1:00 PM | No time for KSC | None | Skip KSC and book a direct Port Canaveral to Orlando Airport transfer |
| 1:00 to 3:00 PM | 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM | 1 to 3 hours | Too short for the 3-hour bus tour. Choose The Cove, Jetty Park or the Cocoa Beach Pier, all close to the Port |
| 3:00 to 5:00 PM | 12:00 to 2:00 PM | About 2 to 3 hours | A shorter KSC visit: Space Shuttle Atlantis, the Rocket Garden and Heroes and Legends. Or a longer Cocoa Beach stop |
| 5:00 to 7:00 PM | 2:00 to 4:00 PM | 5 to 7 hours | A full visit, bus tour included |
| After 7:00 PM | Closing time (5:00 PM on most fall dates) | A full day | KSC until closing, then an early dinner before MCO |
Skipping KSC? Disney Cruise Line's earliest recommended flight is 11:15 AM, Carnival's is 12:50 PM, and MSC suggests at least five hours after the ship arrives. See our guide to the earliest flight after a Port Canaveral cruise.
What can you see at Kennedy Space Center in 4 to 6 hours?
In 4 hours you can do the bus tour and Space Shuttle Atlantis; with 6, add the rest of this list from KSC's own half-day itinerary:
- Kennedy Space Center Bus Tour (about 3 hours round trip). It stops at The Gantry at LC-39 and the Apollo/Saturn V Center. Do it first: it closes earlier.
- Space Shuttle Atlantis. See the real orbiter, and ride the Shuttle Launch Experience on the bottom floor.
- Heroes and Legends, featuring the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame.
- Rocket Garden. Stop for a quick photo or join a guided tour.
- Gateway: The Deep Space Launch Complex. The Spaceport KSC ride inside has a 44-inch (112 cm) height minimum.
Summer afternoon storms are common, and a lightning alert ("Phase 2") sends guests to shelter, so leave some slack.
Are Kennedy Space Center tickets included in a transfer?
Usually not. A 1-Day Admission is $77 for adults (12 and up) and $67 for children (3 to 11), and it does not include parking or add-ons such as Chat with an Astronaut.
Carnival's excursion includes general admission; Shore Excursions Group and JOB cover the ride and the bags, not tickets. Buy online before you sail, and a barcode on your phone takes you straight to the security turnstiles.
How our Kennedy Space Center baggage hold works
- We meet you at your cruise terminal. The Port allows meet and greet only in designated areas (at Cruise Terminal 8, it must be curbside), and fares must be pre-arranged and pre-paid.
- You walk into KSC with day bags only. Your suitcases stay with us.
- We drive you to MCO, right to your airline's departures curb.
| Vehicle | Seats | Baggage hold | Extra hour | Suitcases |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ford Expedition or Chevrolet Suburban SUV | Up to 6 | $249 | $45 | Ask us |
| Ford Transit 12-passenger van | Up to 12 | $349 | $50 | Ask us |
| Ford Transit 14-passenger van | Up to 14 | $379 | $50 | Ask us |
Each price covers the whole vehicle for up to several hours. Tell us your bag count: a week of luggage plus souvenirs fills space fast, and our 12- and 14-passenger vans give groups extra room.
- Car seats and boosters on request, following NHTSA guidance.
- Spanish spoken: ask for a Spanish-speaking driver.
- $1,000,000 liability insurance, far above Florida's for-hire minimum of $125,000/$250,000/$50,000 (Fla. Stat. 324.032). This is general information, not legal advice.
- Family-run: riders know Pedro and his family by name, and every vehicle is inspected and well maintained.
Been using Pedro for a few years now. Fantastic service.
