UberXL Luggage Capacity vs an SUV or Van: What Really Fits
On this page
Short answer
UberXL luggage capacity is not guaranteed. It seats up to 6 riders, but Uber sets no trunk-space minimum, and the rule of thumb is about 4 people with luggage. Uber's MCO guide lists no ride for 5 or more riders with 3 or more bags. Families with checked bags fit better in a booked SUV, minivan or Ford Transit van, from $99.
UberXL luggage capacity vs SUV and van, side by side
Here is what each vehicle carries with every seat filled. Uber and Lyft figures come from their own published rules, plus one driver-written rule of thumb; JOB's figures are for our own vehicles with every seat filled.
| Vehicle | Riders | Luggage with every seat full | Is the space guaranteed? |
|---|---|---|---|
| UberXL | Up to 6 | Not published; "around 4 people with luggage" is the usual rule of thumb | No. Uber says cargo space "is not guaranteed" |
| UberXXL | Up to 6 | Trunk of more than 27 cubic feet behind the third row | Trunk size yes; riders still capped at 6 |
| Lyft XXL | Up to 6 | Room for 4 to 6 checked suitcases, select regions only | Lyft's own description |
| JOB Minivan | Up to 6 | Ask us | Yes, you book this vehicle by name |
| JOB Ford Expedition or Chevrolet Suburban SUV | Up to 6 | Ask us | Yes, you book this vehicle by name |
| JOB Ford Transit 12-passenger van | Up to 12 | Ask us | Yes, you book this vehicle by name |
| JOB Ford Transit 14-passenger van | Up to 14 | Ask us | Yes, you book this vehicle by name |
Seats and bags trade off in vans too. One Orlando operator lists its 14-passenger Ford Transit as "14 passengers / 6 bags", which is why we publish counts with every seat full instead of a seat count alone.
How many suitcases fit in an UberXL?
There is no fixed number: Uber does not publish a suitcase count for UberXL, and the usual rule of thumb is luggage for about 4 people. Uber's driver vehicle requirements ask an XL only for "seats and seatbelts for a driver and 6 passengers" and set no trunk-space minimum, so your room depends on which car shows up.
Uber's own Orlando International Airport (MCO) page says cargo space "is not guaranteed and varies by vehicle body type." It treats a checked bag as anything up to 62 linear inches and tells riders to contact the driver after booking, then get more than one vehicle if needed. The reason is geometry: in most three-row SUVs, the third row and the cargo area share the same floor.
- Third row folded: plenty of room for suitcases, but only 3 or 4 riders.
- Third row up: all 6 seats, with far less room behind them. Ridesharing Driver notes that very large bags can push an XL below 4 people with luggage.
UberXL: how many people really fit with luggage?
Up to 6 by seat count, but usually about 4 once everyone has a checked bag. Uber's own MCO guide is stricter still: for 4 passengers it recommends only UberXL or UberXXL, even with 1 bag, and for 5 or more passengers with 3 or more pieces it lists no ride type at all.
In practice, a family of 6 with a checked bag each should plan on two cars or one larger vehicle booked ahead. Lyft works the same way: Lyft XL seats up to 6, and only Lyft XXL adds trunk space for 4 to 6 checked suitcases. Kids make it tighter: every car seat uses a seating position and every stroller uses cargo room, so read our Uber car seat in Orlando guide before you count on one XL.
UberXL vs UberXXL: what's the difference?
UberXXL is the same 6 riders with a guaranteed bigger trunk. Uber's driver vehicle requirements only accept XXL vehicles with more than 27 cubic feet of trunk space behind the third row, from 18 models that include the Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon XL, Toyota Sienna, Honda Odyssey and Chrysler Pacifica. The Ford Expedition and Chevrolet Tahoe are not on that list.
XXL is offered at MCO, described as "Rides for 6 with room for extra luggage." On October 3, 2026, Uber's MCO page showed average fares of $35 for XXL and $28 for XL on the short trip from Lake Nona to the airport, about 25% more.
What XXL can't fix is the rider limit. A group of 7 still needs two cars. One account can request up to 3 rides, but Uber notes that each ride must start before the next one is requested, so the cars may not arrive together. JOB's Chevrolet Suburban is a model on Uber's XXL list; the difference is that with JOB you book that vehicle by name instead of hoping one is matched.
Ford Transit 12-passenger luggage capacity
With all 12 seats filled, our 12-passenger Ford Transit fits your luggage (we confirm the fit when you book). How to pick the right size for your group:
- 7 to 10 riders: start with the 12-passenger van, $159 from MCO to Disney, or $15.90 each for 10 people.
- 11 or 12 riders, each with a big suitcase: send us your count. We'll tell you honestly whether the 12- or the 14-passenger van fits it.
- 13 or 14 riders: the 14-passenger van fits your luggage (we confirm the fit when you book), $179 to Disney, or $12.79 each.
- 15 or more: ask about two vehicles, each at its own flat fare; we confirm both are free for your date.

Suburban luggage capacity for a cruise
A Chevrolet Suburban is one of the roomiest SUVs on Uber's XXL list, and ours fits your luggage (we confirm the fit when you book) with all 6 seats filled. A week of cruise packing often means one full-size suitcase per person plus carry-ons, so count bags honestly before you choose.
The drive between Orlando International Airport and Port Canaveral is about 42 miles; the port puts it at about 45 minutes via SR 528, so allow 45 to 60 minutes with traffic. At the cruise terminal, the cruise line's porters take your checked bags. MCO to Port Canaveral, one way, with one large suitcase per rider:
| Option, riders | One-way price | Fits every rider plus one big suitcase each? |
|---|---|---|
| JOB Suburban or Expedition (6 riders) | $169 ($28.17 each) | One vehicle, fits your luggage (we confirm the fit when you book) |
| JOB 12-passenger van (8 riders) | $229 ($28.63 each) | One vehicle, fits your luggage (we confirm the fit when you book) |
| JOB 14-passenger van (14 riders) | $249 ($17.79 each) | One vehicle, fits your luggage (we confirm the fit when you book) |
| One UberXL (6 riders) | $95 to $120 (RideWise); Go Port cites $100 to $150+ | Unlikely; Uber's guide lists no ride for 5+ riders with 3+ bags |
| Two UberXLs (6 riders) | About $190 to $240+ | Likely, in two cars arriving separately |
Coming home matters even more. RideWise reports that rideshare prices from the port surge 1.5 to 2 times between 7:30 and 9:30 AM on debarkation mornings, while JOB's price is set when you book. Compare UberXL vs a private van for a cruise group, or book Orlando Airport to Port Canaveral transfers. Flying out late? Kennedy Space Center does not allow luggage, so we offer a baggage hold on debarkation day.
What does an UberXL cost compared with a JOB SUV or van?
Once luggage forces a second or third XL, one flat-rate vehicle costs the same or less. The table follows Uber's own guide: no more than 4 riders with 3 or more bags per XL. MCO to Walt Disney World resorts, one way, everyone with a checked bag:
| Group | JOB vehicle | JOB flat price | JOB per person | UberXLs needed | UberXL total | Mears Connect, adults |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4 riders | Minivan | $99 | $24.75 | 1 | $55 to $100+ | About $75 |
| 6 riders | SUV | $109 | $18.17 | 2 | $110 to $200+ | About $112 |
| 10 riders | 12-passenger van | $159 | $15.90 | 3 | $165 to $300+ | About $187 |
| 14 riders | 14-passenger van | $179 | $12.79 | 4 | $220 to $400+ | About $261 |
UberXL estimates are $55 to $100+ per car off-peak and $120 to $180+ at peak or surge. Mears Connect is about $18.66 per adult with the fuel surcharge, shared with other riders. JOB prices are per vehicle, not per person; see every rate.
To be fair, one off-peak UberXL is a good deal for 4 light packers. The math flips when bags, car seats or surge pricing enter the picture. More on MCO to Disney World in an SUV or van and getting from MCO to Disney World with a group.
When is an UberXL enough, and when isn't it?
An UberXL is enough for small groups that pack light. It stops working once checked bags, strollers or a seventh rider are added.
An UberXL usually works for
- Up to 4 riders with a checked bag each, which is what Uber's MCO guide recommends XL or XXL for
- 5 or 6 riders with carry-ons only
- Short hops between a hotel and a park with no luggage
Book a larger vehicle when you have
- 5 or 6 riders with 3 or more checked bags (Uber's guide lists no single ride)
- Car seats plus a stroller plus suitcases
- 7 or more riders, which always means 2 or more cars arriving separately
- A Port Canaveral debarkation morning, when surge pricing is common
How do I count my luggage before I book?
Count everything that rides in the vehicle, not just suitcases. A quick photo of the pile is the most useful thing you can send us.
- Riders: everyone, including babies who ride in a car seat.
- Large checked suitcases: anything up to 62 linear inches counts as one.
- Carry-ons and backpacks: one per person adds up fast in a full vehicle.
- Bulky items: strollers, car seats you're bringing, golf bags, scooters or coolers.
- Send it to us: text or WhatsApp the counts to 407-837-5656 when you book, and we match the vehicle to your load.
Why families book one JOB vehicle instead of two UberXLs
Our family-run company specializes in private SUV and van rides around Orlando, priced per vehicle. Here's what that means for a family with luggage:
- One flat price per vehicle, set when you book, with no surge on busy mornings.
- Meet and greet at MCO: your driver meets you inside the terminal with a name sign. With rideshare, you wheel your bags to the Arrivals Curb yourself: Level 2 at Terminals A and B, Level 6 at Terminal C.
- Car seats and boosters on request, following NHTSA guidance. See our Orlando car service with car seats.
- A grocery stop on the way to your resort or villa, on request.
- Spanish-speaking drivers, $1,000,000 liability insurance, and vehicles we keep inspected and well maintained.
Disney's Minnie Van has the same 6-passenger ceiling as an XL, with up to 2 car seats. Our 12- and 14-passenger Transits keep a big family in one vehicle with its bags.
We have just returned and used Pedro and his family, excellent service and so nice. Will definitely use him again and continue to recommend.
