Disney and the theme parks

Disney Transportation Guide: Walt Disney World Buses, Monorail, Skyliner, Boats and Airport Rides

On this page

Short answer

Disney transportation is free: buses, the monorail, Skyliner gondolas and boats link the 4 theme parks, Disney Springs and Disney resort hotels, starting 45 minutes before park opening. None of it serves Orlando International Airport (MCO), and buses take no luggage. A private JOB ride from MCO starts at $99 for up to 6 riders, or $179 for 14.

We're a family-run Orlando company that drives families and groups to and from Disney resorts in minivans, SUVs and 12- and 14-passenger Ford Transit vans. This guide explains how Walt Disney World transportation works and when a private ride makes more sense.

Disney transportation at a glance

Walt Disney World runs four free systems (buses, the monorail, the Skyliner and boats), plus walking paths and parking trams. Minnie Vans, Uber and Lyft cost extra.

Who can use Disney transportation?

Disney resort guests can use all of it, and day guests can use parts of it. The free buses, monorail, Skyliner and boats are built around Disney's own resort hotels, but drivers who park at Magic Kingdom ride the monorail or ferry from the Transportation and Ticket Center. Disney buses skip off-site hotels: see hotels near Disney World with a shuttle.

Since June 28, 2026, buses and Sassagoula River Cruise boats from Disney Springs to Disney resorts carry only resort guests and guests with a dining or experience reservation there (Disney Tourist Blog). Cast Members may ask for a room key or reservation, and reservation holders can board up to 2 hours early. More in our Disney Springs transportation rules guide.

Disney bus transportation: hours, rules and limits

Disney buses run from 45 minutes before a theme park opens until 1 hour after it closes. Buses between Disney resorts and Disney Springs stop 1 hour after Disney Springs closes.

  • No luggage: Disney allows "no luggage or alcohol of any type" on its buses, and none on its boats, so they can't take you to the airport or move your bags to a new hotel.
  • Strollers: fold them; medical strollers are treated as wheelchairs.
  • Transfers: Typhoon Lagoon connects through Disney Springs and Blizzard Beach through Animal Kingdom (All-Star and Coronado Springs have direct buses).
  • Help: tap "Get Directions" in the My Disney Experience app.

The monorail and the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC)

What is the Disney Transportation and Ticket Center?

The Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) is the Magic Kingdom parking and transit hub. You park, pass security and buy tickets there, then ride the monorail or ferryboat to the gates in about 15 minutes; Disney runs buses if either is down (TouringPlans). Disney also calls it the "Ticket and Transportation Center," and the "Disney transportation center" is the same place.

The monorail runs on 3 beams: the Magic Kingdom express, the resort loop past the Contemporary, Grand Floridian and Polynesian, and the EPCOT line. TTC parking is $35 a day standard and $50 to $60 preferred, included for Disney resort guests.

Where do Uber, Lyft and private drivers drop off for Magic Kingdom?

At the TTC. Uber, Lyft and taxis drop off beside the non-Disney hotel bus stops, while Minnie Vans go to the Magic Kingdom gates (TouringPlans). Rideshare pickup is also at the TTC, past the taxi stand, or walk to the Contemporary or Grand Floridian and request a ride there.

Disney Skyliner and boats

The Skyliner links Hollywood Studios and EPCOT's International Gateway with Art of Animation, Caribbean Beach, Pop Century and Riviera. It opens 1 hour before Early Theme Park Entry, closes 90 minutes after EPCOT or Hollywood Studios closes, and shuts for refurbishment January 24 to 30, 2027, with buses instead.

Most boat routes run every 15 to 30 minutes:

  • Magic Kingdom: ferryboats from the TTC, and water taxis from the Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness.
  • EPCOT and Hollywood Studios: FriendShip Boats from the BoardWalk, Beach Club, Yacht Club, Swan and Dolphin.
  • Disney Springs: the Sassagoula River Cruise from Old Key West, Saratoga Springs and both Port Orleans resorts.

Minnie Vans, Uber and Lyft on Disney property

Minnie Vans are Disney's paid, polka-dot rides, driven by Cast Members and booked in the Lyft app. Each holds up to 6 guests and carries 2 child safety seats; the Accessible Minnie Van seats 5 plus 2 mobility devices, up to 7 guests. See Minnie Van vs a group van.

Uber and Lyft go anywhere, including off-site hotels, but most cars take only 1 car seat, with a surcharge (TouringPlans). Two car seats or more than 6 riders usually means 2 cars.

Transportation to Disney World from Orlando International Airport (MCO)

Disney's free system skips the airport: "Airport transportation is not included with your Disney Resort hotel stay," and the old Magical Express bus no longer runs. Disney resorts are 18 to 25 miles from MCO, about 25 to 45 minutes by car depending on resort and traffic. Your one-way options:

On checkout day, Disney buses can't carry your bags, and Minnie Van airport rides only cover flights leaving 9 a.m. to midnight. MCO recommends reaching security 2 hours before departure. Flying into Sanford? See the closest airport to Disney World.

When does a private van beat Disney transportation?

When the trip involves luggage, more than 6 people, an off-site address or a place outside Disney property:

  • Arrival and checkout days. Buses take no luggage, and Disney has no free airport service.
  • Groups of 7 to 14. An UberXL or a Minnie Van seats 6, so 12 people need 2 cars. One JOB Ford Transit carries 12 or 14 for one price.
  • Off-site hotels and vacation homes. Disney buses don't stop there. An hourly JOB driver starts at $79 per hour, with a minimum of 3 hours.
  • Disney Springs evenings, if you aren't staying at a Disney resort.
  • Universal days. Our Disney to Universal transfers start at $79; see also Universal and Epic Universe transportation.
  • Late or early flights. Minnie Van airport rides cover arrivals from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. We drive by reservation (call or WhatsApp to check your time).
  • Cruise day. The Disney Cruise Line motorcoach from a Disney resort to Port Canaveral is $45 per guest; a whole JOB minivan to Port Canaveral starts at $179.

What comes with a JOB ride to Disney World

  • Meet and greet at MCO. Your driver waits inside the terminal with a name sign (quoted with your ride).
  • Car seats and boosters. We carry seats and boosters for each child's age and size, and they are priced when you book. It's our safety standard, following NHTSA guidance to keep children in the back seat through age 12. See our car service with car seats.
  • A grocery stop on the way to your resort or vacation home (arranged when you book).
  • Spanish-speaking drivers.
  • $1,000,000 in liability insurance, far above Florida's for-hire minimum of $125,000/$250,000/$50,000 (Fla. Stat. 324.032).
  • Inspected, well-maintained vehicles, driven by a family riders know by name: Pedro and his family.

We have just returned and used Pedro and his family, excellent service and so nice. Will definitely use him again and continue to recommend.

Tips for getting around Disney World

  • Driving to Magic Kingdom? Allow about 10 to 15 minutes from parking through security by tram, then about 15 minutes by monorail or ferry (TouringPlans).
  • Driving to a Disney Springs reservation? Disney asks you to arrive at least 1 hour early, and up to 2 hours at holidays and peak periods.
  • Summer afternoon rain is common in Orlando (Visit Orlando), so leave slack on Skyliner and boat days.

Frequently asked questions

Planning your Disney trip?

Call, text or WhatsApp us with your flight, resort and group size. We reply with a flat price.

Is Disney transportation free?

Yes. Disney's buses, monorail, Skyliner gondolas and boats are complimentary. Minnie Vans, Uber, Lyft, taxis and private drivers cost extra.

Can you use Disney transportation if you're not staying at a Disney resort?

Partly. Day guests who park at Magic Kingdom ride the monorail or ferry from the TTC, but Disney buses skip off-site hotels, and since June 28, 2026, buses and boats from Disney Springs to Disney resorts need a resort stay or a dining or experience reservation.

Does Disney transportation go to Orlando airport?

No. Airport transportation is not included with a Disney resort stay, and Disney buses and boats allow no luggage. The options are Mears Connect, rideshare, a taxi, the Minnie Van airport service for Deluxe guests, or a private ride such as JOB from $99.

How do large groups get around Disney World?

On park days, a group staying at a Disney resort rides Disney buses free. For airport, off-site and Universal trips, an UberXL or Minnie Van seats 6, so 7 to 14 people fit better in one JOB 12- or 14-passenger Ford Transit, from $159.

Is there a Disney transportation map?

The My Disney Experience app shows routes and stops for buses, monorails and water taxis. The resort table in this guide shows which resorts have monorail, Skyliner or boat service.
