Disney and the theme parks
Disney World Without a Rental Car: A 2027 Transport Plan
On this page
Short answer
Stay at a Disney Resort hotel and you can skip the rental car: Disney's buses, boats, monorail and Skyliner are free between resorts, parks and Disney Springs. You need a ride only for the airport, a Universal day and groceries. Disney resorts don't charge to park, so a car costs you the rental, fuel and tolls, not parking. Private rides from MCO to Disney are $99 to $179 per vehicle.
Disney, Universal and airport details last checked October 27, 2026.
What does a rental car add to a Disney trip?
Less than many families expect, if you stay on property. Disney's parking page says overnight self-parking "is complimentary" at Disney Resort hotels, and standard theme park parking is included for resort guests. So on Disney property the rental costs you:
- The rental itself, plus the taxes and airport fees on an MCO rental contract.
- Tolls. Central Florida's expressways are cashless, and Pay By Plate costs up to double the E-PASS rate. Rental companies add a daily fee for their toll programs on top.
- Fuel, and the walk from a park's parking lot or tram, which Disney's buses and monorail skip.
Staying off property changes the math, because day guests pay to park at the theme parks:
| Park days | Car, $35 a day | Oversized vehicle, $40 a day |
|---|---|---|
| 3 days | $105 | $120 |
| 4 days | $140 | $160 |
| 5 days | $175 | $200 |
| 6 days | $210 | $240 |
Disney's standard parking rates, tax included. Preferred spots cost $50 to $60 a day.

From the airport to your Disney resort
Disney's FAQ is plain: "Airport transportation is not included with your Disney Resort hotel stay." The resorts are 18 to 25 miles from Orlando International Airport (MCO), about 25 to 45 minutes by road.
- Mears Connect runs a shared bus to the resorts for $17.60 an adult plus a 6% fuel surcharge, with stops at other hotels on the way. Our Mears Connect guide has the details.
- A Minnie Van takes Deluxe, Deluxe Villa and Club Level guests only, and seats 6. See Minnie Van vs a group van.
- Uber or Lyft works for a family of four with light bags. A bigger group needs two cars.
- A private ride meets you inside the terminal, carries car seats on request and can stop for groceries on the way. We charge one flat price per vehicle, $99 to $179 from MCO to a Disney resort.

Sending your bags ahead: Disney's airport luggage transfer
Disney is testing an airport luggage transfer, run by BagCheck, that moves your checked bags between MCO and your room. It covers six resorts: All-Star Movies, All-Star Music, All-Star Sports, Art of Animation, Caribbean Beach and Pop Century, and only domestic flights on American, Southwest and United.
- Arriving: allow up to 4 hours after your flight lands for the bags to reach your resort.
- Leaving: hand your bags to Bell Services between 24 and 4 hours before your flight.
- Price: Disney's page does not list one, and gratuities are not included. Check when you book.
With bags handled, a family can ride to the resort with carry-ons only. Disney's buses and boats take no luggage, so this helps most on the first and last day.
Park days on Disney transportation
Disney Resort hotel guests ride free buses to all four theme parks, both water parks, the resorts and Disney Springs, plus the monorail, the Skyliner and boats on their routes. Service starts 45 minutes before a park opens and runs until up to an hour after it closes.
- The Skyliner closes January 24 to 30, 2027 for refurbishment. Disney runs buses on its routes that week.
- Leaving a park at closing, expect a line for the bus. A private pickup after a late night is one option; Minnie Vans are another for groups of up to 6.
- Our full guide to Disney's buses, monorail, Skyliner and boats covers which resorts get which ride.
Disney Springs without a car
Disney buses run from the resorts to Disney Springs until 11 PM. Since June 2026, Disney Springs buses and boats back to the resorts need a resort stay or a dining or experience reservation, so off-property guests should plan a rideshare or private ride. See our Disney Springs transportation guide.
A Universal or Epic Universe day from Disney
Disney's buses don't go to Universal. Drive and you pay Universal's $35 parking fee (free after 6 PM on nights without Halloween Horror Nights), plus tolls and the walk from the garage. Epic Universe has its own parking at 1001 Epic Boulevard.
A private ride drops you at the entrance and picks you up when you're done. Disney to Universal, Epic Universe or International Drive is $79 to $135 per vehicle one way. Details: Disney to Universal rides and every Universal and Epic Universe option.
Groceries without a car
Two ways to stock the room with water, breakfast and snacks:
- A grocery stop on the way from the airport. Ask when you book and your driver stops at a store on the route (arranged when you book).
- Delivery to your resort. Garden Grocer delivers to every Disney resort, free on orders over $200, and takes orders up to 30 days ahead. According to Disney's planDisney panel, Bell Services holds grocery deliveries and refrigerates anything perishable until you arrive.
The ride home to MCO
Mears Connect picks you up about 3 hours before a domestic flight and can't wait for late passengers. A private ride leaves when you choose, and MCO asks you to reach security two hours before departure. Book both directions at once on our Disney World to MCO page.
Staying off property without a car
Off-property hotels and Kissimmee vacation homes don't get Disney's buses. Some hotels run their own park shuttle; our list of hotels near Disney World with a shuttle checks which ones. Without one, each park day needs a ride both ways or $35 for parking.
A large group in a villa can book one van for the airport runs and a park day or two, instead of renting two cars. See our 12- and 14-passenger vans.
When renting a car still makes sense
- Off property with several park days, where parking and multiple rides add up.
- Day trips to the beach, Kennedy Space Center or Tampa.
- A one-day rental: Disney's airport FAQ names Enterprise, Alamo and National at MCO and at the Car Care Center on Disney property, so you can rent for one day mid-trip instead of the whole week.
Why Disney families book JOB for the rides Disney doesn't cover
- One flat price per vehicle, tolls included, from a minivan for 6 to a 14-passenger van.
- Inside the terminal with a name sign at MCO, so nobody hunts for a curb.
- Car seats and boosters on request. See our car service with car seats.
- $1,000,000 in liability insurance and a family-run team: riders know Pedro and his family by name.
Guys I know Pedro is recommended on here a lot but I just want to say I also highly recommend him! As a worried parent in the UK he picked up my daughter from the airport as she's off to work at Disney for the summer, he sent me photos of her picked up and dropped off at the hotel which I massively appreciated! He texted me the next day and told me she felt poorly and was checking she was ok! And he's just dropped her off at the campus with another photo for Mum. Honestly such a nice guy!
